Rev. Edward M. Neal, age 73 of Lenoir, fell asleep in Christ awaiting the second coming of Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Amorem Hospice of Burke County. He was born on March 16, 1948 in Damariscotta, Maine to the late L. Myron and Edith Murphy Neal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Russell Neal; and one sister, Verena Simmons.
Rev. Neal was a graduate of Berkshire Christian College in Lenox, MA, class of 1970. He pastored Advent Christian churches in four states, including Vermont, Georgia, Virginia and North Carolina for nearly 50 years. He volunteered as a hospice chaplain in Caldwell County. He was a faithful and caring soul who will be missed by many.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 51 years, Palma M. Neal of the home; two sons, Glen E. Neal and wife Melissa of Lenoir, and Adam C. Neal and wife Elizabeth of Rolesville, NC; three sisters-in-law, Sylvia Neal of Maine, Arlene Neal Williamson of Florida, and Janice McCamey of West Virginia; three grandchildren, Caitlyn, Kyleigh and Caleb Neal; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 22, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Tabernacle Advent Christian Church, 1522 Wildwood Road NE, Lenoir, NC 28645. The service was conducted by Rev. Jim Lee, Rev. Edward Dowd and Rev. Art Stone.
The family received friends on Sunday, November 21, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. also at Tabernacle Advent Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Advent Christian Church, 104 Willow Street NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.
Masks are recommended at the visitation and service.
