ILSE, Eleanor “Loretta” (Nickerson) – 84, Bay Side Home, formerly of North East Point, Shelburne Co., passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017. Born August 19, 1932, at Clark’s Harbour, Loretta was the daughter of the late Clifton and Esther (Nickerson) Nickerson. Following graduation from Clark’s Harbour High School in 1950, she attended Provincial Normal College in Truro. She taught for 40 years. She furthered her studies and received a Bachelor of Arts (U. Ste. Anne), a BA in Theology and a Master’s Degree in Theology and Bible Studies; all of which were achieved with Honours and High Distinction. She was the author of several books and articles of a historical nature. Loretta was a member of the Bear Point Christian Advent Church and a member of the NS Advent Conference. She had a great interest in missions, both locally and at the conference level. She also enjoyed watching curling, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Loretta is survived by her daughter, Denise (Richard), North East Point; sons, David (Stephanie), North East Point; Devere, Shelburne; grandchildren, Jessica Ilse, Halifax; Matthew (Carly Niven) Ilse, LaHave; Ryland Ilse, North East Point; brother, Leroy (Luba) Nickerson, Aurora, ON; sister, Barbara (Gary) Nickerson, West Head; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donald; brothers, Douglas, Stirling, Rupert; sisters, Mavis Cavicchi, and Augusta Chase. Memorial donations may be made to the Autism Society of Nova Scotia, the Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of your choice.
