1963 – 2015 VERNON William H. “Bill” Lyon, Jr. of Laurel Ledges passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 at his home. A lifelong resident of the area he was born in Brattleboro on Mar. 27, 1963 the son of William and Mae (Morine) Lyon. He was raised and educated in Vernon and was a graduate of Brattleboro Union High School, Class of 1981. Bill was a carpenter by trade, well known for his meticulous craftsmanship. He worked with his father for many years eventually becoming self-employed working full-time on his own until a serious motorcycle accident that occurred in 2012 prevented him from working. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, camping, motorcycles and especially looked forward to sugaring every season. He also cherished time spent with his family and friends. Although his accident left him disabled, he continued to be very active up until the time of his death. Bill was very inventive and innovated and could fix or repair just about anything. On Oct. 13, 1990 at Vernon Advent Christian Church he was married to Brenda Longley who survives. Besides his faithful and loving wife of 24 years he leaves two sons, Nick and Jacob Lyon both of Vernon, one daughter, Jessica Lyon of Vernon, his parents of Vernon, maternal grandmother, Idella Morine of Bear River, Nova Scotia, four sisters, Wilma Patterson of Windham, ME, Susan Longley of Brookline, Katherine Walker and Sandra Draper both of Vernon and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Cindy Lyon who died in childhood. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service in celebration of his life will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Vernon Advent Christian Church with Pastor Bruce Burks and Pastor David Patterson, a brother-in-law officiating. A reception at the church will follow the services.
