Over the last few years, I have had the opportunity to work with a number of churches in the area of church health and revitalization. While I have learned a great deal, two things have really stuck out to me: (1) fervent prayer is not only critical to church revitalization, it is essential; (2) many churches and individual Christians have trouble praying in a disciplined and consistent way over a long period of time.
This means that churches often start the journey to revitalization by praying fervently, but that energy and commitment begins to wane over time. Prayer is then reduced to perfunctory prayer at meetings and Bible studies. It takes a great deal more than perfunctory prayers to see a church revived and renewed. So, with that in mind, I have developed a simple tool to help you and your church pray for the life and health of the church in a systematic, consistent and long-term way.
This two-sided 8.5″x5.5″ prayer challenge is something you can do as an individual, but the ideal would be to use it together as a church. It offers a simple plan, based on Scripture, to help you pray. It also fits inside a standard bulletin. The challenge is to pray five minutes a day for a month. Are you up for the challenge?
Pastors, challenge your entire church to do it together.
Sunday school teacher or small group leader, get your group involved
Parents, lead your family to pray the challenge together.
