A Surprise from Across the World at Family Camp

NORTH CAROLINA – Last week, during Family Camp at the Advent Christian Campground in Blowing Rock, NC, Missions Director Jeff Walsh led a missions class that took an unexpected and delightful turn on its first day.

Campers were surprised by the arrival of two guests from halfway around the world, Ruth and Esther, young women from Myanmar who are currently studying in the United States. They were joined by our Asia Pacific Area Director and spent one night at camp.

Ruth and Esther, relatives of one of our ministry leaders in Myanmar, captivated the class with stories of their homeland and the ministry efforts taking place there. They spoke openly about the challenges and blessings of studying in the U.S. and their desire to return to Myanmar in the future.

They also brought a taste of home to the mountains of North Carolina by singing a worship song in Burmese, sharing one of their favorite Bible verses in their native language and writing it on the whiteboard for the class to see.

It was a meaningful time of cross-cultural fellowship reminding all present of the global body of Christ. We continue to pray for Ruth and Esther as they complete their education, grow in their faith and prepare to return home when the Lord leads.
