One of the most practical ways churches can care for their pastors is by making sure they are enrolled in the Advent Christian Minister’s Pension Plan. This plan helps provide long-term financial stability for those who have devoted their lives to ministry. If your pastor works 20 or more hours per week for an Advent Christian church and holds denominational credentials, they may qualify.
The plan allows churches to contribute on their pastor’s behalf by setting aside pre-tax dollars. Contributions grow through investment returns — averaging between 6% in the balanced fund and 16% in the variable fund over the past three years. At retirement, pastors can use these funds tax-free for housing expenses. A lifetime annuity option is also available, ensuring stable support in later years.
The ACGC Pension Board recommends churches contribute 9% of their pastor’s salary to the plan. This commitment helps safeguard pastors’ futures and provides peace of mind as they serve.
In addition, the denomination also offers a free $3,000 life insurance policy for active ministers who hold current Advent Christian ordination credentials, work at least 30 hours per week for a church and are under age 65. This benefit is provided through Minnesota Life and does not require participation in the pension plan.
