Last week, heavy rains and strong winds brought catastrophic flooding to parts of northwest Oregon and western Washington. Among those affected were our churches in Nooksack, Washington and Sumas, Washington. Thankfully, there was no loss of life or major injuries.
Nooksack Advent Christian Church, pastored by Rev. Schad Russell, is dealing with flooding in the church basement. The congregation is currently pumping out water and cleaning up debris and the muddy residue left behind. This Saturday, December 20, the church will offer free childcare for anyone in the community who is helping with recovery efforts. The church will also host a cookout to help feed workers and community members.
Sumas Advent Christian Church, led by Pastor Chad Hammond, was spared water damage to both the church building and the parsonage. The church is now serving the community as a key hub for relief efforts by hosting various disaster relief agencies. This area was also impacted by devastating floods in 2021.
Please keep our brothers and sisters in prayer as they clean up and rebuild once again. Pray that our churches will be able to serve their neighbors well in the name of Christ and that God will open doors for meaningful gospel conversations. Finally, please pray that they will be spared any further damage as more rain is expected in the coming days.
