Miriam (Merrill) Loghry

Miriam Loghry passed away on the morning of Sunday, September 20, 2020 in the comfort of her home in Pascoag, RI. To the end, she was surrounded by her husband and family’s loving care.

She was born Elva Miriam Merrill on August 19, 1937 to Orrin and Ruby (Haines) Merrill in Madison, ME. She grew up in the states Maine and New Hampshire with her three brothers and sister, where her native curiosity and sharp wit were nurtured among those of her kind. Her sharp senses took her to the New England School of Theology (later known as Berkshire Christian College) where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education, with honors, at the top of her class. While there she met Rev. James Loghry who was studying for pastoral ministry. In time, mutual interest was expressed, love grew, and the two were wed on October 24, 1959 in Bangor, ME. James and Miriam would go on to have three children and serve in five Advent Christian churches between 1961 and 1999 (Hudson Falls, NY; N. Scituate, RI; Meredith, NH; West Warwick, RI; Bristol, CT). During that time, Miriam faithfully served alongside Jim, supporting him and the ministry of the church in innumerable ways. She also employed her talents working as an English and French teacher at Whitinsville Christian Academy, as an editor for the Northeast Square Dancer, and as a secretary for various religious organizations, including superlative performance in her final position as secretary for the Plainville United Methodist Church. Miriam enjoyed her travels with Jim across the United States, corresponding with dear friends and relations, singing in various church choirs, and maintaining a warm and welcoming home. In their latter years, Miriam and Jim were faithful members of the Bristol Advent Christian Church while living on the grounds of Camp Faithful in Southington, CT. In her final years, she and Jim lived in the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Ruth Loghry, and enjoyed faithful membership at Oak Hill Bible Church.

Miriam is survived by her devoted husband Rev. James Loghry, with whom she shared 60 years, their three children and their spouses, Paul (Tammy) Loghry, Donald (Ruth) Loghry, and Heather (Brad) Rushing, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her three brothers, Dr. Eugene Merrill (Dallas, TX) , Orrin Merrill (Millinocket, ME), and Erwin Merrill (South Paris, ME). She is pre-deceased by her sister, Laura Mavis Merrill Perkins.

Calling hours for Miriam will be held at Tucker-Quinn Funeral Home in Greenville, RI on Friday, September 25, 2020 from 4:00PM-7:00PM. Her funeral service will be held at Oak Hill Bible Church (40 Sacarrappa rd., Oxford, MA) on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 10:00AM. Following afterward, internment will take place at Acotes Hill in Chepachet, RI.
