New Datoga Settlement Hears the Gospel and Believes

Bryce Whiting

Tanzania pastors and missionaries Johnson Odoyo and Amos Komanya journeyed farther into the bush where they located a Datoga settlement previously unknown to them. This settlement had isolated itself from the outside world and from their own greater tribe.

Johnson and Amos worked hard to gain the trust and friendship of this village, and in the process, they learned that the villagers had been approached by a cult that had counseled them to a life of isolation. Our missionaries told them of a God who unselfishly left his home in heaven and came sacrificially into this world to free them from sin and to make them his people.

The entire settlement received this word with gladness! Following this was a great time of repentance with prayers to invite this God to be their own Lord and Savior. Johnson and Amos urged them to follow the example of the one true God and to step out of their isolation to carry this good news to others.

As a first step of this commitment the village agreed to go to the church recently built for the Datoga and join the others in worship. Praise the Lord for the growth of his kingdom and the faithfulness of Johnson and Amos!
