ILLINOIS – New Hope Advent Christian Church in Aurora, Illinois, joined with the B’Nai Temple congregation this week to assemble 65 food boxes, each packed with all the fixings needed for a full Thanksgiving feast for families of ten.
Working together in a spirit of care for the Aurora community, volunteers prepared the boxes to support local families who are facing economic challenges, especially during a season when federal funding for programs serving the poor has undergone significant cuts.
The meal boxes, created in partnership with the Aurora Area Food Bank, were distributed with added turkeys provided by the food pantry. Each box included an abundant selection of ingredients such as rice, beans, stuffing mix, mashed potatoes, corn, cranberries, items for green bean and sweet potato casseroles, cornbread mix, brownie mix, oil, onions, celery, garlic, apples, eggs and butter.
Before the work began, volunteers from both congregations shared a luncheon together, enjoying soups, sandwiches and desserts.
Participants described the effort as a meaningful and blessed day marked by generosity, fellowship and shared commitment to serving their neighbors.
