PHILIPPINES – The Oro Bible College (OBC) celebrated its Foundation Day on October 25-26, 2024, in a newly renovated auditorium — a symbol of the college’s resilience and forward momentum. This year’s festivities brought together a record-breaking number of alumni, students, faculty, staff and supporters for two days of worship, fellowship and inspiring reflections.
A Celebration of Growth and Unity
The day began with worship and student presentations, embodying OBC’s enduring mission to nurture faith and excellence. In his opening address, newly-appointed president Jess P. Gawangon expressed optimism for the college’s future, declaring, “The only direction for OBC is upward.” His words set a powerful tone, inspiring attendees to envision the college as a growing force for transformation in theological education and community leadership.
Alumni president Mer Sudaria Lipanta highlighted the remarkable impact of OBC graduates, many of whom now lead as pastors, educators and community changemakers. She reminded attendees that President Gawangon himself exemplifies OBC’s legacy, having risen from a student to the college’s highest office.
Moments of Reconciliation and Renewal
One of the most moving highlights of the event came during the evening service. PACCI bishop Efren G. Miranda delivered a heartfelt sermon on “Serving the Lord with Gladness.” In a moment of humility, he sought forgiveness from those he may have wronged, sparking a wave of reconciliation among pastors and alumni. This spontaneous act of grace united the community, fostering a renewed commitment to serve God with joy and unity.
Reverend Jonathan Navacilla, PACCI president and a distinguished OBC alumnus, echoed this sentiment, further strengthening the bonds among attendees. These heartfelt exchanges were a testament to the transformative power of humility and forgiveness within the OBC family.
Fellowship and Fun
The celebration extended into the weekend with fellowship games, sports and shared meals. Alumni and students competed in basketball despite the rain, while others bonded over chess and lively conversations. The event concluded with a sense of anticipation for the future, as alumni lingered well into the evening, cherishing the opportunity to reconnect and strengthen their shared purpose.
Looking Ahead
This year’s Foundation Day was not just a celebration but a reaffirmation of OBC’s mission and legacy. The newly renovated auditorium stands as a beacon of hope and progress, while the collective enthusiasm of alumni, students and faculty signals an exciting chapter ahead. As OBC moves forward, it remains firmly rooted in its commitment to faith, education and service, inspired by the remarkable spirit of its community.
