Charles Heyward McLendon Sr. age 80 entered the arms of Christ surrounded by his family on February 10.
Mr. McLendon was born in Hartsville a son of the late Edward S. McLendon, Sr. and Annie Mae Mixon McLendon.
He was a member of Kelleytown Baptist Church. He was the owner and operator of McLendon’s Superette for 28 years. Following his years in business he was the minister of Hartsville Advent Christian Church for 11 years. After retirement he continued to serve faithfully at Norton Funeral Home where he was an associate for 21 years.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He continued to minister in the community, relishing fellowship with friends and especially cherishing time spent with his grandchildren.
His kindness and servant’s heart touched countless lives.
Surviving is his wife, Barbara Smith McLendon, Hartsville; son, Chuck (Hope) McLendon, Hartsville; daughter, Kristi (Neil) Riddle, Overland Park; four grandchildren, Madison McLendon, Tate McLendon, Matthew Riddle and Hayden McLendon. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jackie Steele, Bud McLendon, Joyce Brigman and Sidney Beasley.
