TANZANIA – Pastors Johnson Odoyo and Amos Komanya left their homes, families and churches in Mwanza last week to visit the Hadzabe on the edge of the Serengeti. The original plan was to spend an initial week with the church in Mang’ola and establish a new church in a nearby community. But, because of unavoidable delays, they left Mwanza later than anticipated. They decided to forego their time in Mang’ola and connect with the Hadzabe according to the prearranged schedule.
Last week, Pastor Johnson updated us on their trip, saying they found many among the Hadzabe suffering from illness. Their intent was to visit all the sick in their various camps and pray for them. They also gathered the believers for a worship service on Sunday at a centralized location in the “bush,” so believers would not have to travel long distances to attend.
On Monday, Pastor Johnson shared this update: “We thank God we had a blessed and powerful Sunday service in the bush. God has healed those who were sick. All were active and praising God. Thank you all for joining us in prayers.”
This coming Sunday, February 1, the Hadzabe believers are planning to gather with Pastors Johnson and Amos at the church building where they gather to worship the one true God. They plan to share a meal together following the worship service. Johnson added, “We are praying so that God may provide a hunted animal for food.”
Let’s pray this week for Pastors Johnson and Amos as they continue to minister in the name of Christ among the Hadzabe. Pray also for the Hadzabe believers to grow in their faith as they learn more and more of God’s Word.
