Since 2020, on average, 16 churches permanently close their doors every day. This adds up to approximately 6,000 churches closing every year. It’s projected that by the end of 2025, 15,000 churches will permanently close. The Advent Christian denomination isn’t immune from these trends. Many churches in our denomination are facing uncertain futures and are discerning next steps.
Within our denomination, we’re seeing a positive trend in churches exploring replanting. Church replanting is the process in which members of a church discern God’s leadership to dissolve their current ministry and work with other churches or denominational leaders to begin a new church for a new season of ministry in their community.
Should your church consider replanting?
Here are the key indicators that would cause a church to consider replanting:
1. Declining attendance over multiple years
2. Decreasing financial giving
3. Aging congregation with few new members
4. Lack of conversions and baptisms
5. Minimal community impact
6. Leadership burnout or vacancies.
If your church is prayerfully discerning next steps, replanting may be an option to consider and we’re here to help. Contact ACGC to begin the conversation.
