Villisca, Iowa – Villisca Advent Christian Church hosted our mission team for an Explore Missions event on February 27 and 28. About 30 people participated in the two-day seminar, designed to challenge participants to deeper involvement in the Great Commission. Pastor Jeff Eason and his wife Kim helped coordinate the event, providing a comfortable setting and engaging atmosphere. Our team, missions leaders Bryce Whiting, Catherine Rybicki and Jeff and Rhonda Walsh, led the various activities of the weekend.
We kicked things off with a Mexican dinner, after which I helped everyone dive into Scripture to see the biblical basis behind missions. Catherine then gave a visual demonstration of the fact that about a third of the world has never heard the good news of Jesus. Rhonda closed out the evening by facilitating table group discussions and prayer.

On Saturday, the team shared several stories from their experiences on the field, both good and bad. After a lunch with some slightly different and uncomfortable rules, the group participated in an extended cross-cultural simulation activity. It was immersive and designed to help participants experience the challenges, frustrations and amusements of engaging cross-culturally.
Bryce closed our event by sharing stories of how the Lord has been working through our pastors/missionaries in Tanzania to bring many of the Hadzabe and Datoga tribes to faith in Christ.
We’ve designed Explore Missions to help people confront the challenge of making disciples of all nations. We want to help individuals and churches take their next step in obedience of Christ’s Great Commission. It is our goal is to raise up churches that fervently pray, faithfully give and enthusiastically send to make Christ known among “every tribe and language and people and nation” (Revelation 5:9).
