Wilfred Jayaprakash Abisheganthan was born on 12 October 1949 in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. He entered the Lord’s care on 16 March 2026 in Kluang, Johor, Malaysia at the age of 76.
Wilfred dedicated much of his life to the noble profession of teaching, serving faithfully until his retirement. Alongside his career, he was deeply committed to his calling in ministry. He served the Advent Christian Church of Malaysia in Kluang, under the leadership of the late Rev. T. Devairakam, where he also met and later married Ruth, Rev. Devairakam’s youngest daughter.
Throughout the years, Wilfred remained actively involved in the Advent Christian ministry in Kluang. He served in many capacities – all with a willing heart and humble spirit – from playing music and preaching to writing devotions that encouraged and uplifted others. After retiring from teaching, he devoted even more of his time to ministry, extending his service beyond the church into the wider community. He was a valued member of the pastors’ fellowship and faithfully contributed to the cemetery committee.
Wilfred was a man of unwavering faith who loved the Lord wholeheartedly until the very end of his life. His life was marked by dedication, service, and a deep commitment to God and to people.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Ruth, and his daughters Joanna (and son-in-law Kenneth) and Jerusha, who carry forward his legacy of faith, love, and service.
A poem in memory of Wilfred, written by his youngest daughter Jerusha:
“A Teacher, Husband, Father & Friend.
Wilfred who left us and went.
God surely had a much greater plan.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”
Amen.
