FRIENDSHIP – Kay Maybelle (Davis) Havener, age 93, of Friendship, passed away on May 11, 2024.
Kay was born on April 10, 1931, a daughter to Ralph and Beulah Austin Davis. She attended school in Washington, Friendship, and Waldoboro, where she graduated from Waldoboro High School, Class of 1948. Shortly after high school, Kay went on to marry Wayne Stillman Havener on November 11, 1949. Kay went back to school and in 1984 she earned an associate degree in accounting.
Kay always loved to travel, and with several of her family members she was able to cover much of the United States, Eastern Canada, and Scotland. After her retirement from the United States Postal Service in 1992, Kay and Wayne traveled to New Zealand and Australia. She was known for knitting mittens, socks, and sweaters for many children in town as well as her family.
Never an idle lady, Kay was a bookkeeper for Lash Boatyard from 1959 to 2016 and worked as a clerk for the post office for 26 years; 20 of which were in Friendship and the last 6 in Waldoboro. She was an active member of the Friendship Advent Christian Church, where she served as clerk and Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the church’s mission society – WH & FMS – and served in various offices over the years. Kay often played the piano and played for various singing groups at the church. She volunteered her time giving tours for the General Henry Knox Montpelier Museum in Thomaston and was a member of the Henry Knox Reading Circle.
Other than her parents, Kay was predeceased by her husband, Wayne S. Havener; sister, Marlene Davis Stenger; and brothers, Ralph H. ‘Skippy’ Davis, Jr., and Norman W. Davis.
She is survived by her three sons, Gary Wayne Havener, and his wife Patricia, of Seffner, FL, Gregory Daniel Havener, and his wife Patricia, of Friendship, and Keith Andrew Havener of Seffner, FL; six grandchildren, Stephanie and the late Jeffrey Scogland, Andrew and Cecily Havener, Christopher and Carly Havener, Benjamin and Megan Havener, James and Katie Havener, and Emily and Craig Spencer. Kay is also survived by her 15 great-grandchildren, Jacob Scogland, Isabelle Scogland, Ruth Havener, Donald Havener, Grace Havener, Madison Havener, Taylor Havener, Stillman Havener, Viola Havener, Emma Havener, Jack Havener, Mary Havener, Moses Havener, Haven Spencer, and Walton Spencer.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 1 PM at Harbor Cemetery in Friendship. The Reverend Alan Chamberlin officiating.
