Jerry Lynn Harris Carter, 88, fell asleep in Christ on May 7, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Center at Advent Christian Village.
Jerry Lynn was born in Morganton, North Carolina on December 5, 1935 to the late J. Frank and Mattie Harris. She graduated from Morganton High School in 1954. Jerry Lynn earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree from Aurora College (University) in 1958 and a Masters of Arts degree from the University of Florida.
Jerry taught in the Suwannee County School system for many years primarily teaching reading through the Title 1 program. She loved watching her “children” learn to read and loved following them through the years as they went on and participated in school activities.
Jerry was active in the Village Church at Advent Christian Village serving at times as a youth group leader, Sunday school teacher and on the diaconate. She was active in the WH&FM Society.
In addition to her years in education, Jerry Lynn served alongside her husband Pomeroy Carter as he served at Advent Christian Village for over 35 years. She gave countless hours of her time and talents to further the ministry. Many of the children under ACV’s care have lovingly referred to her as “Mother Carter”. She was always by her husband’s side supporting him through all of his efforts.
Jerry Lynn is predeceased by her husband of 63 years Pomeroy. She is survived by her four children: Chris Carter (Kim), Kerry Harmon (Tony), Craig Carter (Vicky) and Kay Carter (June). 14 Grandchildren: Laramie Bertolino (Jamie), William Ohms (Taylor), Matthew Carter, Daniel Harmon (Amanda), Jordan Harmon, Adam Carter (Karson), Tyler Harmon (Kaylin), Jeremiah Harmon, Timothy Carter (Shelly), Abigail Lanier (Hunter), Lindsay Carter, Emma Harmon, Anthony Harmon, Mattie Harmon. She was also blessed with 9 great grandchildren.
