LENOIR, N.C. — Central Advent Christian Church had a busy day of service on Saturday, August 15, as members joined other area churches to address needs both around the world and here at home.
Members of Central Advent participated in a Rise Against Hunger meal-packing event in partnership with six area churches. Together, volunteers packaged more than 10,000 meals that will be distributed to vulnerable communities around the world where food scarcity and hunger remain significant concerns.
The event provided an opportunity for Christians from several congregations to work side by side while serving those in need.
Later that day, our church turned its attention toward our own community by hosting the church’s fourth annual Back to School Bash.
We welcomed 153 visitors to the church as local families prepared for the beginning of the school year. Students received backpacks and school supplies, helping equip them with many of the essentials they will need as they return to the classroom.
We also provided a meal for everyone who attended, giving church members an opportunity to welcome families, build relationships and demonstrate Christ’s love through hospitality.
Both events reflect Central Advent Christian Church’s ministry emphasis to encourage, equip and engage: encouraging people through the love of Christ, equipping them for the journey ahead and engaging the needs of the community and the world.
From helping package thousands of meals destined for vulnerable regions around the globe to placing backpacks and school supplies into the hands of local children, the weekend was a reminder that the mission of the Church reaches both across the street and around the world.
Central Advent Christian Church is grateful for the many volunteers, partner churches, donors and community members who helped make these ministries possible. Above all, the congregation gives thanks to God for the opportunity to serve and to participate together in his work.
