The Word of God continues to spread among the Datooga bush people, evidenced by special answers to prayer that can come only from the one true God.
Pastors Johnson and Amos expect that each mission trip will entail evangelism, worship and teaching. They also find that often there are specialized ministries that are called upon. At times they have had to bring peace between warring factions. At other times they minister to the youth of the villages. Most often there are power encounters as they contend with jealous witchdoctors. Several months ago they were engaged in praying over the barren wombs of saddened wives who have lost hope in ever having a child.
These women had been to the witchdoctors, honored the god Aseeta and presented their sacrifices to no avail. They were, in fact, told by the witchdoctors that they would never bear children. In desperation they tearfully came to our pastors and knelt before them, asking for the God of the Bible to give them children. Johnson and Amos responded, “Nothing is impossible with God.” The women asked forgiveness for honoring any other god as they asked the Lord Jesus to be their savior and lord. Then Johnson and Amos laid their hands upon the ladies and prayed.
On this most recent trip the signs of expectancy are all apparent. Johnson reports that all of those who received prayers are now in their first term. These joyful mothers-to-be have been touched by our life-giving God and have likewise leaped into a similar lifestyle of giving. Their greatest desire has been answered, rendering every other valuable possession of little account. Possessions that were once closely guarded are now being offered to others in need, whether it be food, clothing, tools or service. They are joyfully active in providing for orphans in sacrificial ways.
Can it be that they have been granted the blessing of the covenant offered in Deut. 30:9? “The LORD your God will make you abundantly prosperous in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your womb and in the fruit of your cattle and in the fruit of your ground. For the LORD will again take delight in prospering you, as he took delight in your fathers.”
