Jill Dare Bryan Gonzalez, 69, of Smithfield, passed away on Wednesday, November 5 at Duke Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 am-1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 11 at Pleasant Union Christian Church, 1920 Mt. Olive Hwy, Newton Grove, NC.

Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Luby Bryan and Ada Gold Morgan Bryan; a brother, Neal Bryan; brother-in-law, Elvin Moore and Richard Gonzalez.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Gonzalez; daughter, Kristen Gonzalez, brother; Mark Bryan (DeLena), sister; Juliana Moore, sister-in-law; Barbara Estes; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Jill attended East Carolina University and UNC-Wilmington, graduating with a degree in Social Work and worked as a social worker for many years. In 2001, she was ordained as a minister and added ministry with her love of social work for many years.

She loved to work in her garden or watch the many birds that would visit her.  She had a love for reading, especially her Bible. She was a woman of deep, obedient faith and “seemingly had a direct line to the Lord!” She loved her fur babies, Sadie and Scooter; and her grand dog, Daisy. Jill had a wonderful sense of humor and absolutely loved a good joke. She will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her.

  1. Jill was such a sweet woman and Sister-in-Christ. Can’t wait to see her in Christ’s Kingdom. Praying for her loved ones.

  2. Jill was also an accomplished soloist and choir director while she was a member of the Smithfield Advent Christian Church. My husband, Pastor Bob Langston (who passed away in 2013) and I enjoyed many times of delightful fellowship with Jill and her family. She always exhibited a servant’s heart.

My family and I extend our sincerest condolences to the family.
