Rev. Roydon Perkins Ames, age 87, went home to be with his heavenly Father on 5/15/2026. Roydon made his home for the last 30 years with his wife of 57 years, Alice C. Ames, in Dowling Park, Live Oak, Florida. He was the first of two children born to Roy Olin Ames and Marguerite Annie Chappell. His brother is Ronald Brooks Ames (wife Lillian). He has two daughters, Laurie Lee Ames, and Dorothy Amelia Ames; a stepson, Thomas Ransom; and a stepdaughter, Kathryn Ransom Reynolds, and her husband, Scott Reynolds.

Childhood

Roy, born at L & M hospital in New London Ct attended Waterford Elementary school and New London High School He furthered his education by attended three and one-half years at Gordon College finally finishing his Bible study degree in May of 1980 graduating from Durham University of New Hampshire School of Life Long Learning with a bachelor of general studies degree with a major in Management.

Marriage & Family

On Dec. 16, 1960 Roydon married Sally Meader of West Lebanon, Maine and was gifted with two daughters. Dorothy and Laurie.

On November 23, 1968, he married the woman that was a true spiritual gift, Alice Caldona Thomas Ames. There were no children from this marriage, but Roy welcomed into his life with love and a nurturing spirit two stepchildren Thomas Dow Ransom and Kathryn Alice Ransom Reynolds. He is predeceased by his grandson Anthony Jon Ames. He has two great grandchildren and five step grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Career

Roydon was a hard-working resolute man working over a span of 38 years. One year at General Dynamics Electric Boat Company in Groton, Ct. He then spent twenty-eight years at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine in various positions overhauling submarines. He retired at 55 years old as a ship’s superintendent. He then went to work as a salesman at Sears Roebuck Co in Dover N.H. It was at this time he invested his life into the work and ministry of the Advent Christian Church.

Christian Ministries

For 5 years (1979-1984) Roy was active in founding the Berwick Bible Fellowship in Berwick, Maine while working at the shipyard.

May 20, 1990, The New Hampshire Conference of Advent Christian Churches ordained him to Christian Ministry in the Rochester New Hampshire Church.

Roy was active in the Emmanuel Advent Christian Church teaching Sunday School, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and on the church Board as well as directing the church choir for fifteen years.

Roydon was the Pastor of the Alton Bay Advent Christian Church from 1985-1993 at which time he retired to Live Oak (Dowling Park) where he continued to do church visitation summers in Alton Bay and served in a visitation ministration in New England Churches.

Retirement

In October he and Alice retired and built a house on 104th Street in Butterfield Acres Subdivision near the Advent Christian village. His mother-in-law accompanied them on their move there.

Roydon was the General Contractor for the building of their 1,680 square-foot brick home. They resided in their camper on the property during this construction.

Roy and Alice were an invested active part of the Advent Christian Village making many great friends and being active in most of the village’s activities. From 1997-1998 Roy served as the pastor of the Live Oak Advent Christian Church, was short term preacher for the Jasper ACC and the Bethal Creek Church in Day, Florida. He also served many terms on the Florida Conference of Advent Christian Churches Ministerial Committee. In 2020 Roy was the song leader for the Village Church Prayer Meeting and the Sunday Night Service.

Interests

Roydon became an avid golfer and played at least three days a week at the local court. he had many friends that he played with and Pastor Bruce Arnold a friend of many decades was one of his buddies on the course and a close friend to the family in the past year in Roy’s most challenging time. Roy was also an animal lover. He got two of his later in life pets from his daughter, Prince the cat that did not come to Florida and Lil’ Lady that Lived with he and Alice for many years. He was an avid horse enthusiast and a Judge at many horse shows around the Eastern coast especially in New England. He taught riding and was also a judge for 4-H clubs for youth.

Other interests were skiing, reading, music, teaching/preaching.

One of his favorite things to do was laugh. His bad jokes and the sense of jocularity that was in his soul brought humor to many hard subjects when he was preaching and many will remember him for that amazing Roydon laugh.

    I am so sorry to learn of Roy’s passing. As you know I had the privilege of knowing you Alice and Roy for many years. Guess it goes back when I first started going to Emmanuel AC Church way back in 1970. You were a blessing to me many times. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
