On July 5th, 2026 The Rock Christian Church of Concord, NC celebrated 50 years of faithful gospel ministry. This church was a plant out of Shiloh Advent Christian church in Monroe, N.C. The Rock, formerly named First Advent Christian Church of Concord, held its first services at their current location on July 4, 1976. Rev. Dr. Jack Mumford encouraged the church in the morning service to “work till Jesus comes” referencing 1 Corinthians 15:58 and the ministry cry of the original church membership. The service concluded with the old hymn “We’ll Work Till Jesus Comes.”
After the main worship service, all those in attendance were invited to gather for a potluck meal and program in the churches Family Life Center. The room was decorated to both celebrate the birth of a nation, but also the birth and faithful ministry of the church for 50 years. There were display tables with memories from past ministry, pastors and members along with a sign where all were encouraged to write what they hoped for the church in the next 50 years.
During the program, Bonnie Baucom was honored as the oldest living member (94) and one of the original founders of the church plant. Pastor Jack led a meaningful program celebrating the church’s faithful ministry. Those in attendance were invited to share how God has used the church in their lives, and a special video featured interviews with both younger and longtime church members.
Flowers were given to the members who have been part of the church the for the most years. Bonnie shared her desire for the church to continue working faithfully until Jesus returns and expressed her hope that it would remain committed to pursuing and investing in biblical fellowship.
