Tom Warner

1950 – 2015

We grieve the passing of the intelligent, funny, personable, compassionate Tom Warner. Tom was born in Pittsburg, California on January 22, 1950 and moved to Boise, Idaho at a young age, where he grew up. He attended Bishop Kelly High School and graduated in 1968 from Borah High. He attended Boise State College where he enjoyed being a writer and literary editor for Impulse, a poetry publication. He attended Multnomah School of the Bible and graduated with honors in 1981.

He loved to get together with childhood friends, so it was a joy for him to return to his roots in 2003 after pastoring churches in five states. After moving back, he enjoyed working as a chaplain with Ministry to the Aged and with the Idaho State Veterans’ Home. He also pastored Mountain View Church of the Brethren bi-vocationally.

Tom was a music man; he played in rock bands during his youth and later wrote and performed songs about his Christian faith. He also loved to stay up late at night singing the oldies. Tom was a theologian; he loved to study the Bible and figure out all the doctrinal angles. He was a shepherd and a strong gentle leader.

Tom died from cancer on Friday, July 17. He was preceded in death by his parents, known affectionately as “Jody and Jim” (James and Joanne Warner). He is survived by his wife, Shelley; his son, Andy; his daughter, Corina; his two grandchildren, Faith and Zachary; and his four siblings, Kevin, Karen, Mike, and Jerry.

A memorial service will be held on August 29 at 1:00 P.M at Cloverdale Funeral Home.
Instead of flowers, people may contribute to the Tom Warner Memorial Fund at the Bank of the Cascades. This will be used to benefit his grandchildren for future needs such as education.
