You’ve been teaching Sunday school for three years now. People regularly ask biblical and theological questions to which you don’t know the answer. You find yourself a little nervous and sometimes saying, “I don’t know … you should ask the pastor.”
Imagine instead if you were able to say, “I’m not sure, but I know where we can look together.”
While not all ministry requires deep theological understanding, teaching is built on the foundation of Scripture, and questions come up that need biblical answers.
The teacher or small group leader who receives a challenging question can benefit from taking a course that equips her with answers and shows her where to look to find them. The Sunday school coordinator or music leader tasked with choosing material or music can develop a theological foundation that helps sniff out error in curriculum or songs or the individuals/groups that produce them. Yes, it is good and right to run these types of things by the pastor and elders for approval, but a ministry is stronger if leaders are practicing biblical discernment along the way.
Maybe you’d like to try teaching or mentoring the younger generation, but you feel ill-equipped, so you decline to help in those areas. The Ministry Training Institute (MTI) may be your roadmap to developing a strong biblical foundation that gives you the confidence to step into more teaching and discipleship roles that benefit your church.
MTI Christian Studies Certificate
Consider MTI’s Christian Studies Certificate, a course of study for those who want to minister and lead in church with biblical confidence, or at minimum, disciple other Christians in everyday life.
MTI Leadership in Ministry with Pastoral Concentration Certificate
Or consider the Leadership in Ministry with Pastoral Concentration Certificate which offers a deeper level of scriptural study, teaches sermon preparation, leadership skills, cultural engagement and shepherding skills.
If you’re ready to sure up your biblical foundation and serve your church, I encourage you to apply to the Ministry Training Institute. Maybe this doesn’t describe you, but it may describe someone you know. Jot down the name of a few people that may benefit from this program and plan to talk to them about it. We want biblically knowledgeable teachers who can lead our churches well.
To begin courses January 1, 2027, apply by December 1.
