A Ministry of Compassion

When my wife and I visit Thailand, one of our passions is to help the less fortunate in the community in various ways. Pohn’s mom, Mang, really enjoys visiting these people. Many of them attended our recent outreach event in Thailand. ACGC Asia Pacific Area Director often likens Mang to “the woman at the well.”

The woman wearing purple in the photo lives in the Naratchakhwai ghetto. She was once addicted to meth amphetamines. Pohn and Mang met her during our recent trip, and she was pregnant. With no money to support herself, she had turned to prostitution and became pregnant. She recently gave birth to a baby boy.

At first, she didn’t want to speak to them because she thought they would contact the police. Over time though, she began trusting them, and Mang now visits her regularly and delivers food and clothing for the baby. She’s not a believer yet, but she has kicked her drug habit and can now breastfeed her baby. I’m sure she feels God’s love through Mang.

The woman in the other photo is the daughter of a man named Not. Not has a family but no job. We hired him during our event at the community center to help us clean the building, trim the grass and help us set up. We’ll hire him again for the December 21 Christmas event. In the photo, you can see Mang delivering clothing to Not’s new grandson.

Since our small but growing ministry is based as a house church, Mang needs to be very careful about who she invites for worship. We hope that one day we can invite more people in the community to join us for worship when we have a church building.

We’re planning a Christmas outreach event on December 21 this year with another large group, and our teams from Bangkok, Sakhon Nakhon and possibly Singapore will travel to the village while we watch online. Please pray for this growing ministry in Thailand, and for the Lord to speak to the hearts of the Thai people!

Russel and Pohn Yoon serve as voluntary missionaries for Advent Christian General Confernce. The Yoon family desires to plant a new church in Thailand, to be called “Naratchakwai Village Church,” as an indigenous, self-supporting church. The Yoon family regularly travels to Thailand to plant roots for their future ministry.
