TANZANIA – The county of Mwanza is presently being visited by an evangelistic figure named Boniface Mwamposa. He holds massive crusades where he distributes holy water and holy oil for an offering. People line up to receive a blessing by touching these anointed emblems. Some reportedly sprinkle their homes with the oil and water, seeking divine protection.
The U.S. Department of State reports: “In February (of 2020) in Moshi, 20 persons were killed and at least a dozen others were injured during a stampede that occurred at a church meeting. It was reported that worshippers were told they could give an offering in order to walk on ‘anointed oil’ following a prayer that was led by preacher Boniface Mwamposa of the Arise and Shine Ministry of Tanzania.”1
Mwamposa is referred to as “The Bulldozer” because of his bold and assertive ways, and he embraces this title.
There are four other self-proclaimed prophets who are posing spiritual threats that our pastors are forced to deal with. These individuals are false teachers who have negatively influenced their community. According to the testimony of our pastors, a couple of these prophets call themselves “God.”
In addition to selling holy water and holy oil, they also peddle other “anointed” items such as handkerchiefs, cakes, salt, sand, soil, pebbles and even pens. When these common items become fetishes, worshiped like the brass serpent in the wilderness as seen in the book of Exodus, a dark spiritual power overtakes the user, necessitating the ministry of spiritual deliverance.
Let’s lift our brothers in prayer for increased strength to fight this ongoing battle.
